Primary Winter Competition Rules & Guidelines

There are some rules at Primary level that are different than netball played by older players.  This is to allow young people the opportuntity to develop their netball skills.  Netball North Harbour plays with these adaptions below:

  • Year 1 & 2, play across a third of a court.  Hoop height 2.4m.  SIze 4 ball. 4 v 4 game
  • Year 3, plays on 2/3rds of a full sized court.  Hoop height 2.6m. Size 4 ball. 5 v 5 game.
  • Year 4 & 5, lower hoops (2.6 metres) and smaller balls (Size 4).  7 v 7 game with rotations each quarter.
  • Year 6, no rotations, normal netball played with 3.05m high hoop and Size 5 ball.
  • Boys are allowed to play up to Year 8, up to 3 on Court but only 1 in the goal circle (if two are in the goal circle, instant loss of default).
  • All players must be registered.  You can have late players come into a team but they must complete an Additional Player Form and pay $10 fee.  This can be done on the night in the Control Room.
  • Year 1 & 2 - skill session for 15 minutes followed by 2 halves of 8 minutes each.
  • 10 minute quarters for all other games Year 3, 4, 5 and 6.
  • Year 4 and 5 must rotate their players as per the rotations in their yellow book.  If they fail to rotate players and do not correct, points may be deducted.  See below for the rotations guide.

Instant Loss by Default

- 2 boys in the goal circle (eg GK & GD or GS & GA) - note Year 4 & 5 need to watch rotations here.

- Substitute player from a higher graded team.

Please check with the Control Room if you are unsure of these.
